Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC)
Statement about arrest in JCC bomb threats case
We are grateful to the FBI, Israeli and international intelligence forces, and our local and state law enforcement partners for their thorough and persistent investigation over the last four months into the bomb threats called in to Jewish centers around the world, and we are relieved to hear of an arrest in this case.
As stated by the U.S. Attorney General today, “The Department of Justice is committed to protecting the civil rights of all Americans, and we will not tolerate the targeting of any community in this country on the basis of their religious beliefs. I commend the FBI and Israeli National Police for their outstanding work on this case.”
We are deeply distressed to learn that the suspect is a Jewish teen with US-Israeli citizenship. Regardless of the perpetrator’s identity, these were deplorable, disruptive, and deeply disturbing acts designed to terrorize, and we condemn them in the strongest terms. There is never a justification for this behavior. We are baffled and we are committed to learning everything we can to prevent this kind of criminal action in the future.
Although a majority of threats are believed to have been linked to this individual, it is believed that some of the bomb threats in the last couple of months may not be linked to this suspect.
Unfortunately, these bomb threats are not the only crimes against the Jewish community in recent months. We are confident that law enforcement will bring the perpetrators of these other acts to justice as well.
