Danielle Minson — How You Help

Steve and Andrea Baron and Ryan and Sari Small, chairs of the Jewish Federation of Cincinnati’s Super Sunday phone-a-thon, believe that modeling volunteering for your children is a great way to show them the value of Super Sunday. Super Sunday is March 10 at the Mayerson JCC.

Put a Ring on It: Super Sunday is Coming

Super Sunday Cochairs on Importance of Jewish Federation Phone-a-thon

With Super Sunday fast approaching on March 10, I sat down with Super Sunday chairs Steve and Andrea Baron and Ryan and Sari Small to learn more about their involvement with Cincinnati’s largest annual Jewish community phone-a-thon. —Danielle

Danielle: Hi everyone, thank you for volunteering on Super Sunday. Why did you agree to be chairs?

Sari Small: We wanted to get involved in Super Sunday because we felt like it was an opportunity for us to show our support for the Jewish Federation and get our family involved as well.

Steve Baron: We receive a lot, as a community, and as a result of Jewish Federation. I think it’s important for us to participate. It also feels like the right thing to do something as a couple that demonstrates our involvement for our children. The best part is that they get to participate as well. Overall this is a really great chance to do something positive together as a family.

Danielle: What are your kids going to do on Super Sunday?

Andrea Baron:   The older two are going to be runners. And the baby will be at J Play.

Sari Small: We have a daughter. She’ll be at J Play also.

Ryan Small:    No, she’ll be on the phones [general laughter].

Andrea Baron:   It’s important for us, too, to be a part of the next generation of donors as well as the next generation of volunteers for the Federation.

Danielle: Can you tell us why that is important?

Andrea Baron:   Because I want to keep the Jewish community of Cincinnati strong and the Federation is a big part of that.

Steve Baron: To that point: we are that next generation coming up. Our parents’ generation is getting older and they’ve served quite a bit and so rather than leaning on them like we have for pretty much our whole lives, it’s time to take the torch, and carry that forward a little bit—

Andrea Baron:   —and show our peers how important it is that we do it, and that we would like them to do it as well.

Danielle: What do you most hope that people get out of Super Sunday?

Ryan Small:    That everyone has a good time and we raise a lot of money. The Jewish Federation supports many Jewish organizations in our community and it’s important that they receive the support they need.

Andrea Baron:   I like that our children feel a sense of responsibility for giving back to the community and it’s really nice to involve them as well. So they don’t just see us going to meetings but actually participating in something so they can feel proud of themselves.

Please consider volunteering for Super Sunday on March 10. Find out more at jewishcincinnati.org/supersunday.
