Together We Can Do Almost Anything: February/March
This brief monthly update is a way to keep you—our generous donors—in the loop.
Why we do what we do: This month why we do what we do is encapsulated for me in Phil Cohen’s story of why he has given to the Federation longer than any current donor. At the end of World War II, he was an American soldier stationed in Munich. He says, “One of the first things I did was walk through Dachau. It was clear to me what had happened to the Jewish people there. I came home in September 1945 as a Major. One of the first things I did upon my return was to give to the Federation.” More >
The latest story of a life you changed internationally: Your gift helped bring Ido Mordechay as an Emissary for Israel to Toronto. He says: “While Service Year brought me as a Shaliach to the Diaspora, I realized that my job is also to bring the Diaspora to Israel.” In 2016, 115 Emissaries from Israel (like our own Maia Morag here in Cincinnati), were sent to over 30 Jewish communities around the world.
The latest story of a life you have changed locally: Your gift helped change Eliana’s life: Community Campaign: Our annual campaign just started in October and the Federation’s goal, with the help of almost 80 volunteers, is to raise $5.6 million this year. Thanks to our Campaign cochairs, many other volunteers, and your generous gift, we have already raised almost $4.3 million. Our ideal deadline for the rest is Super Sunday, March 11, and drop-dead deadline is May 31.
Thank you to our Campaign Cochairs Gary Greenberg and Debbie Brant, and our Major Gifts cochairs Chrissie and Josh Blatt. On January 25 at a volunteers briefing, Ronna Schneider, our Community Campaign chair, shared: “I feel like this is my time to be passionate about our local community and to help raise as much money as possible for our local Jewish community.”
Project giving: Project giving, or giving in addition to the campaign (supplemental giving), has contributed funding for Jewish Cincinnati in many areas already in January. For example, The Disability Inclusion Awareness Programs (January-March) at the Mayerson JCC are generously funded by Paul Heldman and Deborah Kirshner.
Thanks for all you do to repair the world/tikkun olam and give back/tzedakah in the world and in our daily lives.
Gratefully,
Danielle
