120 years ago this July, our community found a way to give back, together—original 1896 article

With the annual meeting coming up next week, we want to celebrate a cool 120 years of our community investing in our community.  Here’s a copy of the original American Israelite article on the founding of our predecessor organization, United Jewish Charities of Cincinnati.  We are one of the two communities (other is Boston) claiming the very first Federation communal giving model, which also became the model for the Community Chest, which is now United Way. —Shep
