Arab Israeli Journalist to Speak at Mayerson JCC
As a host for Israel’s I24 News, Lucy Aharish is very familiar with the day-to-day stories of both conflict and hope in her homeland. Meanwhile, she is living her own duality as the first Arab news presenter on Hebrew-language Israeli television. Aharish will talk about her stereotype-shattering journey of conflict and inspiration, including surviving a terror attack as a child, and being granted the honor of lighting a torch on Israel’s Independence Day last year.
Lucy Aharish was raised in the southern Israeli town of Dimona, where she and her family were the only Muslim Arabs. She anchors the evening edition on I24 News and hosts a morning talk show on Israel’s Channel 2, the country’s most-watched TV station. Aharish has made a name for herself breaking the molds of conventional ideologies in a very public way, challenging those who are watching to consider an alternative way forward. She has been recognized by the Israeli government for promoting pluralism and fighting racism in Israeli society.
Join Aharish for “Unapologetic: Notes from an Arab Israeli Journalist” at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at the Mayerson JCC. Visit jewishcincinnati.org/israelity to RSVP.
This presentation is part of the 2016 Israelity speaker series, “All Sorts of Israel.” This year’s featured speakers bring different Israeli perspectives to Cincinnati. The series is brought to you by the Jewish Federation of Cincinnati in collaboration with the Jewish Community Relations Council and the Mayerson JCC.
